Australia is an island continent. In Australia the capital is Canberra and has been since the 1st of January 1911. The Population of Australia in 2016 is currently 24 million people. The language in Australia is mainly English, with a small percentage of Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Greek and Italian. In Australia the Leader (Prime Minister) is Tony Abbott. He served as the 28th Prime Minister of Australia from 2013 - 2015 and leader of the Liberal party from 2009 - 2015. In Australia the main religions are Catholic and Christian with a small majority of other religions. The currency in Australia is the Australian dollar, the New Zealand two dollar coin is worth the same amount as the Australian dollar coin.

Australia is part of the Oceania continent. In Australia the highest mount is Mount Kosciuszko it reaches 2,228 metres high and is 7,310 ft high. In Australia the longest river is the Murray River its length is 2,508 kilometers long. Australia is surrounded by the Pacific, Southern and Indian Oceans. The Timor, Tasman and Coral seas also lie around the country. In Australia there is a different range of flat and mountainous landscape. There is a various mountain ranges such as the Hamersley Ranges and the MacDonnell. In Australia it has a range of climates, at the northern ( top ) of Australia is hotter than the southern ( bottom ) of Australia, Around the middle of the country is found to be mostly the outback also known as the desert.

The native animals (fauna) of Australia are the kangaroo, koala, echidna, platypus, wallaby and wombat. You can find those animals in zoos around Australia and you can also find them around in the wild. The native plants and trees ( Flora ) in Australia are the Proteaceae (Banksia), Myrtaceae ( Eucalyptus - gum trees ) and Fabaceae ( Acacia - wattle )

Captain Cook was the first to Discover Australia, He discovered Australia in 1606 - 1770. Australia has been involved in heaps of wars and here they are, Colonial period, 1788–1901. Sudan, March to June 1885. South African War (Boer War), 1899–1902. China (Boxer Rebellion), 1900–01. First World War, 1914–18.
Second World War, 1939–45. Occupation of Japan, 1946–51. Korean War, 1950–53.
( Food )
Australian’s favourite food is mainly meat pies, boiled beef, Vegemite sandwiches, hamburgers with beetroot, Anzac biscuits, tim tams, fairy bread and sausage rolls. Australian’s main crops they grow are wheat, vegetables, fruits, sugarcane, barley and canola. Australia does export food such as eggs, meat, milk and different variety of yummy fresh fruit.

Australia has competed in a lot of Olympics starting from the Olympics in 1895 and has been competing since. Australia has won 7 gold medals, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals. There has been 10 medals won in Swimming, 3 in Rowing, 2 in Sailing, 1 in rugby sevens and 1 in Shooting. Australia is competing in a lot of events such as Swimming, Sailing, Shooting, Rowing, Rugby Sevens. In the Olympics some of the main competitors are Emma McKeon, Kyle Chalmers, Ellia Green, Tom burton, Cate Campbell.

Due to its large size and isolation from the rest of the world, Australia is sometimes known as the island continent. Since 2012 Australia has an estimated population of 22 million people. Australia has over 750 different species of reptiles, more than any other country in the world. Australia is a relatively wealthy country with high life expectancy.
